North York Moors

An attractive landscape distinctive by an expanse of views and open moorland covered by a rich carpet of purple heather, the largest area of its kind in England and Wales, greets visitors to the North Yorkshire Moors. Designated a National Park in 1952, the North York Moors beauty is wide open spaces knitted together with a variety of landscapes including woodlands rich in wildlife, and pockets of picturesque market towns such as Pickering and Helmsley with their honey sandstone buildings and local traditions.
