| Shropshire |
Shropshire lies on the border of England and Wales, set on a backcloth of patchwork fields, wooded valleys, picturesque rivers and rolling hills. The county is one of Englands most rural and sparsely populated with a diverse collection of towns and villages from Shrewsbury, birthplace of Charles Darwin, to the World Heritage Site of Ironbridge, and Much Wenlock, the birthplace of William Penny Brookes, founding father of the Modern Olympic Games. Some of the best walking can be found in the Shropshire Hills, an Area of Oustanding Natural Beauty, and home to the Long Mynd and the limestone escarpment of Wenlock Edge. |
