Get ready for an unforgettable weekend starting with a mountain walk into classic Wainwright country just below the massif of Great Gable. The route provides excellent views overlooking the Borrowdale valley as we walk along a less travelled route into the hills past a cascading waterfall. Our focus is reaching Windy Gap, a fitting name, in between the Great Gable massif and Green Gable, and from where we descend a long corridor laid with shale and small boulders the kind that you can sink your feet into and run down if you wish, it gets the adrenalin flowing, or you can take your time and take in the breathtaking mountain views ahead and the mountain tarn below. This first day is the perfect build up to whats in store on Sunday.
Sunday we climb the UK's only Via Ferrata, an experience you will be re-telling for years to come. Via Ferrata is Italian for 'Iron Way' and the system has been used in the Alps for more than a century. Honister's Via Ferrata in the Lake District is an adventure climbing system that uses a permanently fixed cable for safety and protection up the rock face of the old miners' route. You don't have to be an experienced rock climber to enjoy the Via Ferrata, although you will experience the same thrills but in the knowledge that you are securely fastened at all times. At the top is a Zip Wire At the top is a Zip Wire to cap a superb Lakeland adventure activity. |

*Honisters Via Ferrata is physically demanding and challenging but does not require a high level of body strength. All participants in Honisters Via Ferrata must be reasonably fit and healthy, a minimum of 1m 30/ 4ft 3inches tall, and must weigh less than 20 stones/ 128kg with a waist (above the navel) measuring not more than 110cm/43 inches and thighs measuring not more than 70cm/27 inches. |
